Cardiac pulmonary resuscitation

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can be lifesaving intervention when a person has suffered a cardiac arrest as a result of respiratory arrest, myocardial infarction, drowning, electric shock, or brain damage (Almås et al. 2010).The assessment of the condition requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation  should commence as quickly as possible as this impacts on the patient outcomes. It is vital to commence chest compressions immediately to maintain cardiac output and respirations to maintain oxygen supply.
